Space Invaders Infinity Gene – Truly an Amazing Feat

1978 Taito released the original space invaders. A game that would change the world of gaming dramtically and change the culture we live in. Some may say the greatest arcade game of all time.

2008 Taito release Space Invaders for the iPhone and iPod touch. Due to clunky controls a small screen and gameplay issues Space invaders was thought to be past it.

2009 Taito release Space Invaders Infinity Gene. Space Invaders was reborn. Now the beloved old game has been refitted for the 21st century. The interesting thing about this game is that no one players experience throughout will be the same. The levels change constantly. Once you beat a stage you go down an evolutionary tree that when you go back to levels can unlock new weapons, ships and menu options. These levels start off as the original but then get more colourful and complex over time.

Another awesome feature to SSIG is the way you can play levels with your songs music. Don’t be fooled however like I was as the levels do not play to the beat of the music just from its length and other features. I would like however in a future update for this to possibly happen.

The controls for SSIG are touch but the new thing in SSIG is that you can move around freely like games like siberian strike and ifighter. They work surprisingly well and I wouldn’t want them to change although some people may prefer accelerometer controls which may not be needed but would have been a nice addition.

There are highscores that I’m currently competing against that was a must for a game like this.

Overall this game is a must for arcade shooter fans and actually fo anyone with a shred of liking for gaming.

Sam Score: 4.5 out of 5

Pros: Classic game made better Excellent Music, High Scores, Use your own music

Cons: Music feature doesnt do it to tempo of music
